1. Contests will begin on the Centennial Stage daily at 12:30 p.m.
2. Contests rules are listed below for each day.
3. Only 12 participants will be accepted for each contest, based on date received.
4. All exhibits must remain on display for the duration of the Fair. Pick-up time is Tuesday, September 4 between 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
5. Prize money and ribbons will be awarded as follows:
1st - $20, 2nd - $15, 3rd - $ 10, 4th - $5
6. Registration must be submitted on official entry blank by August 4. No entry fee. Pre registration is required.
01 - Red Hat Contest
Wednesday, August 30, 2006 - 12:30 p.m.
Red Hat Contest entrants pose with their creations on their heads at the 2006 Fair
Contest open to all Red Hat Clubs. Celebrate the 50s with The Allentown Fair.
Using the theme "An Oldie but Goodie" embellish a red hat for your club and show us your creation on our Centennial Stage, Wednesday, August 29 at 12:30 p.m. Judging and ribbons awarded at this time.
A. One entry per club.
B. Follow the theme.
C. Individual entries taken if 12 club entries are not received.
D. Winning hats must be displayed for the duration of the Fair. Pick up date is Tuesday, September 4.
02 - Amateur Photography
Thursday, August 30, 2006 - 12:30 p.m.
Capture the 2007 Great Allentown Fair. The fair will supply contestant with a disposable camera, contestant tours the grounds for 3 hours and shoots 12 photos. Capture your most impressive shots that can feature animals, people, food and carnival activities. Photos will be developed and displayed. Photos remain on display for the duration of the Fair and become the property of the Fair. Winners will be announced on Friday at 12:30 p.m. Judging will be based on the entire roll of film.
03 - Decorated Broom People
Friday, August 31, 2007 - 12:30 p.m.
Contest open to all. The Fair will supply the broom, hat and glue guns. Contestant will supply the accessories to dress and tress the broom. This can be done with scarves, hats, string, maps, vines, leaves, sunglasses, pinecones, felt cutouts and buttons just to name a few. You will have forty-five minutes to complete your broom person. Judging will take place immediately.
04 - Artist Contest
Saturday, September 1, 2007 - 12:30 p.m.
Contest open to all. Contestants bring their supplies and should be prepared to go out on the fairgrounds (any area open to the public) and create a painting using any medium: watercolor, oil, chalk or pencil. Contestant will have four hours to complete their creation. At 5 p.m. the judging will take place and the winner will be announced. Painting will remain on display for the duration of the Fair.
05 - Raw Spud Contest
Sunday, September 2, 2007 - 12:30 p.m.
Raw Spud Contest entrants concentrate on their creations at the 2006 Fair
Contest open to all youth between the ages of 5 and 10. Objective is to create the most original raw potato decorated with an "oldies" theme. Fair will provide the potato plus various other vegetables (grape tomatoes, carrots), raisins, marshmallows, toothpicks and glue. Contestant may supply other materials to incorporate in the decorating process. Contestant will have 30 minutes to design the creation. Judging will take place immediately after design time.
06 - Design Your Scrapbook Page
Monday, September 3, 2007 - 12:30 p.m.
Contestants bring their imagination, creativity and expertise and the fair supplies the packet of materials including a single page and all the embellishments. Theme is Happy Birthday Baby. You will have 30 minutes to complete the creation. Judging will take place immediately after the design time.
